Pre-Coast Guard Rescues at Sea

The Mystic Seaport Museum reenacted “rescues at sea” techniques used prior to what we now know as the U.S. Coast Guard. This technique was used quite often along the New England Coast when ships wrecked on rocks. More than 177,000 lives were saved this way, lifting one person at a time!
